Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expeditions for Schools

Path Hill Outdoors offers practice expeditions with expedition training, and assessed expeditions. We work with one cohort at a time from the same school. Dates and times will be agreed with the school and their DofE coordinator.

We take great pride in the standard of our training and delivery and aim to give you expedition skills for life.

Practice Expeditions

Sessions will be based at Path Hill Outdoors. During a weekend we will cover:

  • Expedition clothing, kit and equipment
  • Rucksack packing
  • Pitching expedition tents
  • Use of expedition stoves
  • Expedition nutrition and meal planning
  • Navigation theory
  • Navigation practice
  • Route planning and route cards

The weekend will provide an opportunity to put these skills and knowledge into practice. The teams will be provided with maps, compasses, tents and stoves and will stay overnight at our site (at no additional cost). Each group will be supported by a DofE trained and accredited Instructor, with a relevant first aid qualification and DBS check.

By the end of this training weekend, we would expect the groups to reach a standard of navigation and journeying that allows them to be remotely supervised.

Assessed Expeditions

These will normally run during weekends in May, June or July. Our DofE Assessors will check in with teams during the expedition and camp, to ensure that the 20 conditions are being met, as set out by DofE.

Assessment expeditions will start at a location which is a one-day walk from Path Hill Outdoors. The teams will then journey to our site, where they will camp overnight. The following day, they will then make their way to another remote location, where they will end their expedition. Again, the teams will be provided with maps, compasses, tents and stoves and there will be no additional costs for camping.
